Compost Outpost Check-In

Thank you for participating in the Basalt Compost Outpost Pilot Program, which was championed and conceived of by Basalt’s Green Team and is supported by funds from Basalt Town Council. The program was designed to be a pilot program for 2025 but will continue through 2026. Since January we have had more than 150 people sign up for the program. Thank you for composting, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and keeping organic waste out of the landfill.

The Green Team is interested in your experience with the Compost Outpost program. Your feedback will help the Town of Basalt and the Basalt Green Team understand what improvements can be made, your thoughts on the program, and how to continue to make composting a priority in our community.

The Town has provided compostable bags for your use since January. When the current supply ends, you will be asked to get your own. When purchasing your own compostable bags, the packaging and/or bags MUST contain the language "Certified Compostable" on them. They cannot just say biodegradable as these are NOT compostable and the number one reason for contamination of an entire compost haul. Good examples of compostable bag brands include BioBags and Green Earth. Bags can be purchased at local grocery stores. Thank you for your cooperation. We hope you understand.
